The bigger problem is that the African teams seem to be going backward, despite all the talent on the field. That is a real problem for me. These things have happened to other countries, Ireland and France come to mind, but it is particularly disturbing when it is happening to little countries with great potential.

Unfortunately it happens too frequently to African and other smaller Third World teams.

          Pathetic Ghana

          Too bad and shameful behavior.

Ghana in chaos as Sulley Muntari and Kevin-Prince Boateng suspended

          • Players sent home from World Cup for disciplinary reasons
          • Decision comes hours before final game against Portugal
          • Cash shipment arrives to avert squad’s threatened boycott

Wow! I hate to ask this, but does anyone think he would have tried this with an official at his club?

Maybe we are being unrealistic to expect much more from these African teams on the field when they clearly have some of the same discipline problems off the field that we do. And I do not mean just the players.

Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari has been sent home from the World Cup after allegedly slapping a team official in the face – and threatening members of the coaching staff with a broken bottle.

Muntari, who played in the Premier League for Portsmouth and Sunderland, was tipped to play a key part for Ghana in their crucial match with Portugal tonight.

But he, along with fellow midfielder Kevin Prince Boateng, have been sent home in disgrace after an incident at the team’s hotel.

Muntari is alleged to have assaulted an official during a row, slapping him across the face, before chasing members of coaching staff around the hotel with a broken bottle

And imagine he was getting a lot of praise for this not too long before:

Ghana star Sulley Muntari has provided one of the most heartwarming moments of the World Cup, after handing out money to one of the poorest communities in Brazil.

The AC Milan midfielder reportedly received special permission from his national team boss Kwesi Appiah to visit the people of Maceio.

While he was there he signed autographs and posed for photographs with the children, before handing out cash to the disadvantaged locals.

He wouldn't need to go down the road of physically assaulting any officials at his club because of the professionalism at those clubs. There are checks and balances, and officials are held accountable and punished for their indiscretions. Most of these African and Caribbean football federations are controlled by crooks and politicians who are like parasites and fleece the players out of their monies. They are led by the common men off the streets or out of the communities, and get to those high positions through bribes and nepotism. The players know this and therefore there is no respect and trust between them and their federations. That's a bigger problem which stems from the wider society.

True, I wonder when we will overcome these basic problems which hold us back in just about every area of life.

                      Ah bwoy, depressing.

For accuracy Muntari was not eligible to play as he received a red card in the last match

Most of the top footballing countries' federations operate like a corporation and report their income and expenses. Come to think of it, wasn't the JFF made into a corporation a few years ago? When was the last time the JFF's figures reported?

Good point, and we can recall how T&T players were ripped off and received very little from their qualification to the 2006 World Cup.
                              Disgraceful situation anyway.
