"Do you think if he called up Alex Ferguson and said 'hey I want Wayne Rooney' how long would've that conversation lasted?

Get over it Piers? Did RvP want to stay?? I don't think so...best to let him go, IMO.

I have to agree, Wenger's hands were tied when it came to van Persie. One year left on the contract, the club and player cannot agree on a new deal. If that is the case, then it is time to cash in on the player.

sell him somewhere else in another market. it is not the sale, is who him sell him to and made worse by what happened afterwards. ESPECIALLY after selling nasri to city and watching them win the title.

OK, I can appreciate that. He basically helped ManUre win the lague when vP joined. He provided the goals to push them over the line.

Man U and Juventus were the only clubs interested in signing RVP, he flatly refused to speak to Juventus and threatened to see out his contract.

Pushed over the line? Memba MU won the league wid how many games to spare. That is more like winning by donkey lenghts than being pushed over the line. Get it right Tilla.

OK Lazie, say what you want. Even if you do not want to admit it, ManUre was put in a good position as a result of Van Persie'ls goals.

Tilla, whenever MU win the title people try to cheapen the efforts of the team. Why? MU scored 86 goals in the league, RvP scored 26 of those. The other 60 goals were awarded for good behavior? Last I checked football was a team sport.

Why you didn't claim that it was Rooney's assists that pushed the team over the line? What about when RvP got injured and Rooney picked up the scoring? What about the high pass rate from Carrick? Why you didn't claim it was Fergie for adjusting the defense to spot conceding a lot of goals? Why it's not the defenders and goalkeeper? Oh ... but wait ... what about the team spirit to fight back and win after falling behind so many times?

As far as I can remember, with the exception of freekicks and penalties, every goal RvP scored was set up by a team mate. But as mi say, when MU win people try to cheapen the efforts.

Stop tell lies Mr. President. RVP tackled and won every ball from the opponent to score those 26 goals. As a matter of fact the camera caught Rooney, Carrick and the other players many times playing darts and snooker while having a meal of potpie and à pint while RVP was busting a gut to score all those goals.

Jangle, I don't want to say it. Anyway, Fergie brought RvP to ManUre because he had a solution for which he was seeking a problem. He had a eureka moment when RvP gave him 26 goals and the title.

I really do not understand what Lazie is talking about. Recently he was telling me that Chelsea lost the title last season because they lacked a striker. It is now a different matter when you point out the difference RvP made to that ManUre squad in winning the title.

Tilla we never "needed" a striker. The opportunity presented itself to get a world class striker for cheap and Fergie jumped on it. It's just the same how David Moyes jumped on the opportunity to get a world class midfielder. It's that simple. The season before he came to the Empire, he beat Rooney for the Golden Boot by 3 goals. Rooney then had to make way for him and played provider.

I was about to say that he couldn't have sold him somewhere else if the player didn't want to go...so true, Wenger couldn't have done much more but it still should not have happened. Wenger waited too long to get RVP to the table.
