I think the approach is the same for Mexico (who have an important Pro-league) too. The CCL is like the Capital One and other cup matches in the BPL.
It's us the fans who gets short-changed.
For not fully developed leagues like Jamaica--it's a measure to show their level of development.

HL!!! Do you think MLS teams approach
the CONCACAF Champions League as a competition that they need to win???
- The CCL is to show who is the top club in the region & I think it's important for MLS clubs to finish among the top 3 teams, every year.
This is the first time I'm trying to follow the CCL, from the group stage, & I understand that MLS is a priority & that explains the use of reserves and their players competing in USL Pro, BUT what I saw from the NY Red Bulls, Wednesday night, was ridiculous. They needed to win (an away game) to have a chance of advancing & they left Henry, Cahill & Wright-Phillips (the team leaders, top 2 leading goal scorers & assist leader) at home & Alexander who is #2 in assists played only 29 minutes......the game ended 0-0.
