Rocco is owner of New York Cosmos. He took ownership of Cosmos, Jan. '17, presented himself as the "savior" of the NASL. Reports claimed that he stated NASL would be a "real" soccer league (modeled off the Euro pro/rel system) & North America's premier soccer league. He also knew that MLS wanted New York Cosmos, in the league, so I guess he felt that he beat them to it. Their '17 season started off with Minnesota United moving to MLS, and Tampa Bay Rowdies moving to USL (who was in a partnership with MLS). Because they didn't have the required number of clubs to contest the '17 season, USSF put NASL on a provisional Div. 2 status, for the season, in hopes they could fill the vacancies, for the '18 season. They failed to fulfill the requirements, as they ended up losing more teams to USL. NASL has been defunct since the end of the 2017 season, and Cosmos is in NISA (Third Tier/Div.3).......He blamed USSF & MLS for the leagues failure, and filed law suits, claiming violation of federal anti-trust laws, to no avail.
