Munro disappoint again in Ben Francis KO final

SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth - Glenmuir High gained their sixth hold on the ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel Ben Francis Knock-Out trophy after a clinical 3-0 demolition of a shell-shocked Munro College in the final at the St Elizabeth Technical Sports Complex yesterday.
Before a packed house of mostly vociferous Munro supporters under a brilliant sunny sky, Ricardo Webb in the first half and two brilliant second-half strikes from Jamal Jackson and Paul Wilson guided Glenmuir to an easy win.

The victory was the second for coach Patrick 'Jackie' Walters added to titles won in 1993, 1994, 1999, 2004 and 2005 for the Clarendon school.
This was the second defeat in the Ben Francis final for Munro and the third straight final in which they have failed to score after being shut out 4-0 in the 2000 daCosta Cup final and 2-0 in the 2003 Ben Francis final - both at the hands of Cornwall College.
Walters praised the "fighting spirit" and "resilience" of his charges, adding that after a "lukewarm start to the season" they were starting to show their capabilities when it counted most.
According to the veteran coach, Munro looked flat and might not have sufficiently recovered from their 3-2 win over last year's winners St James High in the semi-final last Wednesday.
Munro's coach Hopeton Gilchrist was disappointed with his team's loss, saying they "gave up too much of the ball in both halves" and failed to rise to the occasion.
Munro started off as the better team on the day, and urged on by a full house, took the fight to Glenmuir with Christopher Wint leading the charge in giving the Glenmuir defence all they could handle.
Erroll Davis, who scored last Wednesday, had two good chances in the first 16 minutes.
In the sixth he found himself free on the right side and was picked out by a cross from the left, but hit it straight to National Under-19 goalkeeper Davian Piper.
Ten minutes later, Davis curled a left-footer inches high of the left upright from the right side after some good work to get past the Glenmuir defence by Wint.
Glenmuir took the lead against the run of play when Webb deflected a free kick taken form the edge of the 18-yard box on the right past the left hand of the diving Lloyd Tyme in the 31st.
Munro were once again on the offensive early in the second half, but failed to convert their many chances and paid dearly as not even a double offensive change to bring on Kaneil Harrison and Okiel Channer in the 58th worked.
Tyme could be given some blame for the second goal as he misjudged Jackson's free kick from the right that flew past him and lodged into the far left corner of the goal in the 81st as Glenmuir doubled their lead.
Wilson saved the best for last and with three minutes to go, he collected a long searching pass from the left side, beat Channer twice, while dribbling into the area before scoring off the inside of the left post with a curling shot.
