  • The Football Make or Buy problem: A Simple Solution

The 3-3 rule....Teams are allowed a max of 3 players in their squad who entered the school after 3rd form...maybe add an age restriction like 14-15 as some 3rd formers can be quite elderly

This both allows the "upward mobility" of aspiring student athletes to get into better situations at another school and establishes a fair limit....which in turn will even out the flow of quality players to more schools

A Solomonic solution doable by an ISSA rule ...no need to trouble the Termites in Cabinet wid dis likkle ting ...dat was a foolfool proposal from Ronnie

    Hahahaah.

So no StGC girl can compete in sports then? They are ALL 6th formers.

Who going to maintain these records and who will ensure that unscrupulous skools wont force the records?

Also, why the focus on Ball when CHAMPS is the biggest retail market in Jamaica. So if what good for the goose, good for the gander, how will this rule apply to track and tennis and skools challenge and basketball and swimming and cricket and, and and?

Methinks samfie people try pull a fast one. Where is the problem really? The curn and burn exploiter skools get a bad rep and wont have any long term success, as long as serious skools are out there providing viable alternatives.

The system is fine as it is. Sub-6th formers wait out a year and then they have all rights to rep their new skool in all areas, otherwise is just apartheid. 6 formers are technically free-lancer and since all have to reapply, then ISSA has no jurisdiction there, really.

Wolmers try a ting and still lose di Manning...foundation weak! In team sports, it takes time for chemistry to develop.

    End of rant.

Sixth formers can compete...they just have to fall within the overall cap...yuh ave lady pon yuh Manning squad?

Who going to maintain these records and who will ensure that unscrupulous skools wont force the records?
Easy...it will be common knowledge when kids move from one school to the other...also both the receiving and donor skool will have records. Forging records would not work...both sides would have to be in collusion...that's highly unlikely.

Seems to me that system would be largely self-regulating because the info on player movement is impossible to keep secret

Also, why the focus on Ball when CHAMPS is the biggest retail market in Jamaica. So if what good for the goose, good for the gander, how will this rule apply to track and tennis and skools challenge and basketball and swimming and cricket and, and and?
Since sports are composed differently a universal rule is unworkable so rules for each sport which has a perceived problem would have to be developed...only the 2 big sports have any issues...the other sports pale into relative insignificance cause nuh body really care bout dem more dan suh. Yuh eva hear bout nuh market fi crickita ar swimma??
Methinks samfie people try pull a fast one. Where is the problem really? The curn and burn exploiter skools get a bad rep and wont have any long term success, as long as serious skools are out there providing viable alternatives.
It's a fairness issue...skools have huge disparity in resources so a market for players creates huge roadblocks for under-resourced skools to compete for talent or even retain their own players...the playing field should be leveled

The system is fine as it is. Sub-6th formers wait out a year and then they have all rights to rep their new skool in all areas, otherwise is just apartheid. 6 formers are technically free-lancer and since all have to reapply, then ISSA has no jurisdiction there, really.
Maybe it's fine for Jawges, Wulmaz, JC, KC, C-bar etc but not for most.

Waiting a year ok...but kids can repeat years and beat that trap...so we have 17-18 y.o. ballas in 4th form for example

6th Formers can play...but should be subject to an overall cap like all imports..maybe a cap of 3 is too low... no more than 4 post 3rd form imports in a squad perhaps

Wolmers try a ting and still lose di Manning...foundation weak! In team sports, it takes time for chemistry to develop.

      End of rant
Mi tell yuh lang time seh Wulmaz backbone suspek Dem is bout 500 year ole wid nuff moneyman inna dem ranks...an mi nuh know if dem reach double digit inna Manning ar Champs tikle yet....mi nuh know ow dem nuh figure di ting out yet

Totally against any restriction that prevents 'kids' being able to exploit opportunities. ...so no to any restriction of movement of 'kids' between schools. The current 1 year ban should be repealed.

The whole thing says to the world that our teachers (they manage the schools) are reprobates! ...and smacks of denial of the constitutional rights of parents/guardians/kids!

          Disagree

The player trading situation now reflects a perversion of what fair competition and wholesome HS sport should be about

We can have some transfers for sporting reasons but it needs to be controlled before it really gets too extreme....otherwise that Wolmers situation will be the norm and a few schools with resources will predominate

I said female SPORTS...so I refer to sports other than football, or is this a football only rule. All sports have transfers going on, including tennis. The glare is just less, as less people care. Visibility issue, but as you speak about fairness...

As to the records, U figget that nuff recruiting takes place from peripherals schools and country skools, where the records may be suspect and in any case, if you have a quota, people will only know transfers from THEIR skool, but not know for sure the quota is breached. Suppose JC uses 4 transfer ballers when the quota is 3 and the players come from Mushette, Spauding, Tichfield and say Ochi High, how will Muchette know if the others are transfers?

Do you want our future Messi to be denied the chance to be in a top program? See how fast Bolt got pulled from W Knibb and how Blake got to Jago from MoBay?

If you REALLY want a workable restriction, maybe you should be talking about a limit of years to play Manning Cup?

I really dont see any issue here. As I said, Hoolmaz try a ting and it backfired on them. That is enuff deterrent.

I agree with the 1 year sit out. Gives the kid a chance to really integrate into the skool and to focus on stabilizing the all important academics.

Never heard any complaint about buying athletes outside track or football...but if there is a problem in the minor sports it can be addressed with a rule

As to the records, U figget that nuff recruiting takes place from peripherals schools and country skools, where the records may be suspect and in any case, if you have a quota, people will only know transfers from THEIR skool, but not know for sure the quota is breached. Easy solution...all teams declare their player roster B4 competition starts...with the names they're required to state age, when the player started at the school and if a transfer...from whence they came

Put it on the web for all to see... any challenges as to eligibility under the rule ...ISSA investigates. The public nature of the info results in self-regulation

Do you want our future Messi to be denied the chance to be in a top program? See how fast Bolt got pulled from W Knibb and how Blake got to Jago from MoBay?
Exceptional players will have the chance to go wherever they want.....they will be the 1st to be picked up by a top program of their choice under the cap....no worries

Ultimately JFF has to deal with the development of such players though...not schools

If you REALLY want a workable restriction, maybe you should be talking about a limit of years to play Manning Cup?
Don't think that's necessary...kids should play as long as they want and and are eligible to do so

I really dont see any issue here. As I said, Hoolmaz try a ting and it backfired on them. That is enuff deterrent.
Wulmaz is just the tip of the iceberg

St Georges FC long term tactics is to purchase a line of inheritance before 6th form. How many of those boys will pass two CXC subjects?
Wolmer's United gave some people who have already achieved CXC results a chance to attend a premier 6th form, the most balanced 6th form in Jamaica. Where else could these CXC achievers find a school with good 6th form academic system with a good football system?
The same type of thinking that created a problem cannot be used to solve the problem.

In other words Wolmers went for an instant title contending team created from 6th form imports and Jawges built their's over time with a mixture of early imports and home grown talent (Plus one Zhelano Barnes )

XLCR dont have a 6th form, so its instructive that he chose StGC.

Good football program? Where is the evidence?

If you read the thread, you would see that the sports student pass rate is HIGHER than the gen popn at the school. Unno have pHD a tutor ballers after skool?

Go read the thread again and yuh will see the hard work and academic progress being made. Dont hate, congratulate !
