"So who were the Music Specialists? I do not know. If I had to hazard a guess, I’d say a group of studio musicians who decided to cut a disc or two on their off time. Whoever they were, they knew what was up. This piece of funky reggae can give Funky Nassau or Funky Kingston a run for their money. It may not have been the most popular of records (that I know of), but it’s a side like this that puts a smile to my face, reminding me of blazing hot Summer days on the beach, and a group of cats making music in Jamaica just to make it. I can see it now in the studio: smoking ganja, getting in the groove, and proving that they were really music specialists. "

i personall want to feel that jackie mitto and or harold butler were involved...

Gamma, I'm seeing your post for the first time, as I hadn't been on the forum much yesterday.

Thanks for the memories here, boss! "Dynamic Pressure," in my view, has to rank among the all-time best reggae instrumentals! It has a driving rhythm (reminds me somewhat of the rhythm on Lady Saw's "Under the Sycamore Tree"), and the organ lead was very tasteful.

I'm more inclined to believe that the organist here was Jackie Mittoo, rather than Harold Butler. My reason is that the late Jackie Mittoo recorded a great deal of stuff on the organ, and he was a more utilized studio keyboard player than Butler. Actually, I cannot remember Harold Butler doing much organ work (his brother Leslie Butler was the one who favoured the organ). Harold preferred piano and synthesizer.

Looking at Karl's comment about that rock steady group, Tomorrow's Chidlre, was Pluto Shervington the leader of Tomorrow's Children? I seem to recall that Tomorrow's Children was from Mandeville, and Shervington was one of the main musicians in that group.

Yep, I certainly remember that country band Zap Pow, to this day one of the most progressive band Jamaica has ever had!! About a year ago, I posted some details about Zap Pow on Willi's Caribbean Track and Field Forum.

The hit I always remember, when thinking of Zap Pow, is the somewhat funky instrumental "Mystic Moods." Beres Hammond was Zap Pow's lead singer for several years in the 1970s, and the band also had really good musicians like Dwight Pinkney on guitar and David Madden on trumpet. At one point, Jacob Miller was a lead singer before he joined Inner Circle.

I cannot recall the other members now, or any other recordings by Zap-Pow. But I know that the band was extremely popular in Jamaica, and in fact had several hits.

Harold was a part of that group too.

he also played with a group name Jah Armi and they have a song I am looking for. I can't remember the name of the song but I love it.

Assasin, Harold Butler was never a member of Zap Pow band! Even if Harold, like a million other Jamaican musicians, played a studio guest role on one or two of Zap Pow's recordings, he was never a member of the group!
