<SPAN class=news_body>Tuesday children and their parents wept openly as they shared stories about the kindness of Victor Young, the man several called Mr. Chin.

His widow wept as she recounted how her three year old grand daughter was covered in her grandfather’s blood after he was shot.

She said she had just sent her granddaughter to watch TV with Mr. Young when she heard the explosions.

A short time later she entered the adjoining cook shop to be greeted by a chilling sight.

Mrs. Young could find no reason someone would kill her husband.

She noted that he was always there to assist the children.

Outside the cook shop these boys remembered the man who formed a youth club in an effort to keep them out of trouble.

The police are yet to establish a motive for the killing of Mr. Young and the two others.

Meanwhile, senior police investigators are continuing their hunt for the main suspect behind Monday night's triple murder in Salt Spring, St. James.

Tuesday morning the police took seven persons into custody for questioning in connection with the murders but investigators later told our News Centre that only three of the persons were considered suspects.

For hours Tuesday residents talked in hushed tones about the brutal slaying of 34-year-old Hartley Campbell otherwise called "Pingie", 57-year-old Wesley Scott otherwise called “Coates” and 54-year-old Victor Young dubbed by many Mr. Chin.

While the police are yet to establish a motive for the killings it is speculated that Mr. Scott and Mr. Young were labeled informers by the killers.

The police say their main suspect has been identified as Eldon Calvert, who is the leader of a criminal gang operating in sections of St. James.

Investigators say the armed assault began about 11:45 Monday night while Mr. Campbell and Mr. Young were in a building which houses a cook and vegetable shop.

It is reported that three armed men forced their way into the shop and opened fire hitting the two men several times.

On leaving the gunmen shot Mr. Scott who was walking on the road.

The injured men were taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead.

The police say several nine millimetre and point 45 spent shells were found at the shooting scene.

Monday night's killings pushed the murder figure in St. James to 150 since the start of the year.

This is 15 more than the 135 murders recorded in the parish for all of last year.

The police have since increased their patrols in Salt Spring.</SPAN></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD></TR>
