dont see the big deal with this... shows buju's maturity... confronting his adversaries... i see it as more for the gays to have an understanding of buju rather for him to understand them... buju has long gone past the 'boom bye bye' but they cant stand the words to the song... he doesnt have to perform it ever, it plays every day...
now that he has met with them, it weakens their position and their reasoning for the mass demonstrations and targeting of buju...
now that he has explicitly told them that he is not advocating violence against them, what will they protest now...
brilliant move by buju and his people...
their outrageous demands which borders on blackmail only further weakens their position...
gargamel respect hoist like a flag... sky high...

Might help him ah foreign...but it nah help him ah yaad.Originally posted by Rudi View PostI don't understand what the problem is. He agreed to listen to them, they made certain demands/requests: contribute to JFLAG, do a song or make a statement supporting Gays in Jamaica etc. which he catagorically refused. Beenie Man got hugged and kissed by Rupaul for godsake. I think you guys are being premature this will help him in the long-run. what he has done is met with the beast and basically said we must agree to disagree. which essentially is the general Jamaican perspective. The bowing characterization represents more hope than reality. This Bruce Golding Bow by answering the question dear Ben?

On the face of it I would agree with a caveat. Whether we want to admit or not homosexual relationships are technically illegal in Jamaica. Yet what Jamaicans object to are Public displays and promotion of homosexuality. there has always been homosexuality in Jamaica the question is what happened in the last 20-30 years to result in this public animosity. To some the mere act of meeting with them constitutes a compromise. To others meeting and reaffirming ones beliefs in the face of immense pressure will constitute a greeat strength. Let's wait to see how it plays out. If I was Ben I wouldn't breakout the champaigne just yet.

Agree to disagree with the gays is NOT the general Jamaican perspective by any stretch. The general Jamaican perspective(to put it mildly) is that they should NOT be tolerated.
Meeting with them may help salvage his tour, but just deciding to meet with them is a MAJOR concession in my opinion. It must have been hurting him BADLY or he would not even consider it.
