Vikings NFC Champion Gear Sent to Haiti
There's no doubt that the people of Haiti need a great many things these days. Food, clean water and medical supplies top the list, but clothes to replace the ones lost in the earthquake are somewhere on the list. Enter the Vikings.

Like all teams playing in last weekend's conference title games, the Vikings had merchandise printed and ready to go if they advanced to the Super Bowl. Thanks to Brad Childress, Brett Favre and the Saints, those items weren't needed here in the United States. The NFL works with a charity called World Vision to distribute those shirts to needy people in foreign countries and, much to Paul Shirley's consternation, the people of Haiti will be wearing a lot of Vikings (and Jets) gear in the days to come.

Michael Rand of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune had a report on the charity Friday and got some fiery feedback from the readership. Some Vikings fans were concerned that the choice of gear from Sunday's losing team smacked of undeserved cruelty. One reader, presumably a disgruntled Vikings fan asked, "Haven't these people suffered enough? I know that many of these people are desperate, but shouldn't there be a limit to the indignity?"

The desperation of life in Haiti these days likely trumps the indignity one might suffer from wearing Vikings garb. Who knows, there may be somebody down there who gets this shirt, thinks about past charitable donations and says to himself, "Wow, the Vikings have won three NFC titles since 1998!"
