  • Pay cut for Air J workers employed by Caribbean Airlines

Scores of Air Jamaica pilots who took up job offers with Trinidad's Caribbean Airlines have been hit with pay cuts.

The pilots, who were offered contracts ahead of last weekend's sale of the national airline, will in some instances see their salaries being reduced by as much as 45%.

According to the Jamaica Airline Pilots Association (JALPA), the cut in pay varies based on the grade of each pilot.

Captain Russell Capleton, JALPA Spokesman.Captain Russell Capleton, JALPA Spokesman, told RJR News that Caribbean Airlines has stated that the salaries of Air Jamaica pilots are being realigned with that of their colleagues in Trinidad.

"They say it's to keep it in line with the going rate out of Trinidad as if to say if they were to pay the going rate here in Jamaica, it would result in unrest from their pilots union ... that is what they're saying," Captain Capleton said.

It is reported that two Air Jamaica pilots declined offers to take up contracts with the Trinidadian air carrier.

Seventy seven of 125 Air Jamaica pilots were rehired by Caribbean Airlines which assumed control of the entity's routes on Saturday, May 1.

Nonsense. CA has as good pilots as Air Ja had. Why the huge discrepancy?? Then unnu wonder why Air Ja couldn't make any money? Maybe it's a top heavy situation as a good friend tells me her salary was improved....not a pilot though...

The Air J pilots are some of the best paid in the world. A long time me a tell unnu. When Delta, US Air, American Airline and others were taking pay cut after 911 Air J pilots were getting their regular raise.

Please quote the various salaries as we would love to see how they differ among the airlines?
