We (X and I) have been proposing that constituencies change ever 10 years. Now is that too frequently for your tastes? In any case what does it matter if constituencies change? Other nations don't need to do it, because for the most part they have honorable people in government (even with blatant gerrymandering). Which gangster did Stephen Harper have to get approval from in order to run in his constituency? Or David Cameron? That's the difference right there. Our politicians are far to eager to be lazy and so only meet once or twice a week in parliament and institute measures (garrisonization) to ensure that even if they caught on tape in a depraved threesome involving their own sister and another man then they would be assured of winning by hefty margins. Since they seem prone to laziness, why not keep them in shape by forcing them to actually take an interest in their constituents in order to get voted in for real? If they win 2 elections in a row they can't rest on their laurels afterwards because next time around it won't be the same set of people voting for them again (well some of the voters will be the same, but others won't and so the politician will have to find out the views of these other voters).Originally posted by Assasin View PostBwoy it seems like unnu get too smart. How can you change constituency frequently? Which other country do that and that within itself cause instability and the electorial office will be accused of siding with one camp or another.
For example, West Kingston has essentially remained the same since it was formed as a constituency and Kingston has almost always been divided into 3 unchanged constituencies: West, Central and East & Port Royal. But what if say 10 years from now we got: West and Port Royal, North and South? And then 10 years later we got West and North, Central and East & Port Royal? With the boundaries changing so that we don't even have neighbourhoods always appearing in one constituency (so sometimes all of original Kingston within North, West and East Street is located in one constituency and sometimes it isn't and so sometimes all of Bournemouth Gardens is one constituency and sometimes it is not).
