Human rights lobby group Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ) says while there have been some successes under the state of emergency, the security forces should utilize provisions that are already available to them under the law.

JFJ’s executive director Dr Carolyn Gomes said it is unfair to ask Jamaicans to give up their fundamental rights and freedoms.

Instead, she said the constabulary should engage in more intelligence gathering operations, community policing and more sophisticated crime fighting techniques.

Haven't they been against it since the first extension? Ppl need to understand that these organizations have their role to play and those elected for whatever reason should earn their pay.

Heard the commish a talk bout how hard it was to get people to talk in various communities and taking many of these thugs off the street gave ppl more freedom to come forward. According to the commish it would have been good to keep them off the streets to ensure they gathered more evidence.
