Jamaicans could be affected by UK teacher redundancy

Instead of poaching teachers from Jamaica and the rest of the Caribbean as it did in the early 2000, Britain is now set to make the positions of hundreds of teachers redundant along with the slashing a range of subject from the curriculum.
The twist in circumstances comes as head teachers in England anticipate massive government budget cuts.
Reports out of Britain are that head teachers have been advised to consider axing subjects taken by a small number of students as they are no longer cost effective.
The budgets of schools in Britain will come under increasing pressure and scrutiny, as the government is set to announce the outcome of its comprehensive spending review next month.
As far back as 2002, developing countries including Jamaica saw their classrooms being raided by British Teacher Recruitment Agency to fill staff shortages in England.
At the time the country's Education Minister expressed concern that Jamaica was losing its most experienced and qualified teacher with 600 recruited in one year, when Britain issued some 6,000 work permits to teachers outside the UK that year.
While the axing of British teachers looms, its uncertain how many of the recruited Jamaican and other Caribbean teachers will be affected.

Yeah the outlook is bleak in England, not just for teachers but all across the public sector. Most departments have to reduce their budget by at least 40%. I believe Education and health have a smaller reduction.

The private sector has not recovered yet and universities are churning out students who either have useless degrees or can't find jobs. The younger generation has really been screwed over. The state pension will almost certainly not exist when its time for us to retire (thats if we are not focred to work until we drop dead lol) Nearly every graduate or student I speak to is thinking about emigrating.

... meanwhile in the fantasyland called Jamaica people a tek industrial actions to get more money.
"Jamaica's future reflects its past, having attained only one per cent annual growth over 30 years whilst neighbours have grown at five per cent." (Article)

The British folks have it a bit too easy. There is no lifetime cap when it comes to welfare benefits, dem get free flat and free food and are not required to seek work. Average retirement age is 64 (too young), 4-weeks paid vacation every year, socialized medicine and free education.

The Brits who choose to leech of the state get it easy. The welfare system here is unsustainable and ridiculous at times, the government should not be paying thousands of pounds a week in rent to house large famillies, many of whom have not contributed anything to the country in the way of taxes. It is a major reason why the country is in so much debt. I think its fair to say that the gravy train is about to stop, but it doesn't just affect the work shy, but every one else, as the government needs to reign in the huge deficit.

However, saying that, "socialised" health care and free education are a must in any developed society imo. The NHS is not perfect (its far from perfect) but I'm very glad I don't have to face bankruptcy if I have the unfortune to get ill or injured, and primary and secondary education should always be free! Its even free in the uber capitalist US.

The retirement has gone up btw and will no doubt go up further.

so...what are you really saying...get rid of social welfare or not?

Hortical, your right, but not just third (and second) generation Jamaicans, but working class white people also. Somalis are the most welfare dependant group in the UK, followed by Turks, Bengalis and Pakistanis. British Jamaicans are defintely not the worst offenders. However, what was originally intended to be a crutch in times of need has become a lifestyle for some.

The system over here needs to be changed, not scrapped. I think most people over here agree that welfare entitlements, especially when it comes to housing need to scaled back.
