1. Most Chinese are learning English anyway and even some of the acknowledge that Mandarin is....difficult (to put it lightly)
2. With China's one-child policy in place after the Revolution it means China's population will experience European-style age and decline before 2050 if I remember that radio documentary correctly.
3. India's population will be younger and larger than China in the future and as a stable democracy there is little prospect of a future revolution (as might happen in communist China if the economy does not keep up with expectations and people want to vent)
4. Hindi is an Indo-European language like English so its basic structure and even some words are similar, making it easier than Mandarin.
