Customs detains pork products in MoBay

    Friday, May 24, 2013 | 6:31 PM

KINGSTON, Jamaica —The Jamaica Customs Agency’s Contraband Enforcement Team (CET) in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture’s Veterinary Services Division this week detained a significant quantity of imported pork products from major retail outlets in Montego Bay, St James.
According to Customs, the operation, which occurred between Thursday, May 23 and Friday, May 24, showed that the products (pork hock and pig’s feet) originating from the USA and Canada were imported without the requisite permits.

The Agriculture Ministry has not issued any permits for pork hock and pig’s feet since October 2012, Customs said in a release Friday.
The names of the retailers have been withheld pending further investigations.
