    Arnett changing political sides?

    By Fabian Ledgister, Freelance Reporter
A bloody election now looms over the troubled community of Arnett Gardens, as the already ferocious gang warfare in the community is beginning to show political undertones.
Several areas in the community are allegedly under the control of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), due to changes in the political allegiance of the areas' 'shottas.'
The STAR team visited the traditionally People's National Party (PNP)-aligned community of Jones Town, which seemed more desolate than usual.
Immediately though, the notable colours of green could be seen on two men standing nearby. When queried, one of the men stated: "PNP do nutten fi di people but bring down police pon wi. Right now, Bruce a deal wit di people dem, suh we nah support who nah support we!"
Reiterating their views, the men then took the STAR to a section of the community, where a large sign of the Opposition leader was erected . The image was captioned, 'Bruce is Almighty'.
    FORCED TO SWITCH
But other community members claim that it is only a small sect of 'bad men' that have moved over to the JLP and they are the ones forcing the unwilling community to do the same.
"Tru dem a run di place yah now. A some bad man a force the community fi switch, tru .................... bring dem in fi fight him war- same ting me tell u a guh guan," said a man, who had warned in a previous STAR article titled 'More Blood Will Run' that the use of alleged JLP shottas would result in forced JLP support in the community.
In the previous article, dated March 30, 2007, the man had predicted, "Dis ting a guh get redda, cause first time a PNP an PNP a war, but ...... nuh have bear Showa (JLP) man a fight di war fi him. Suh dat nuh mean seh if him tek ova again, di ting a guh switch?"
Now, a month since the resident made that claim, other areas in Arnett Gardens are now reportedly switching party support, including 'Mexico', 'Benbow', and sections of 'Top Jungle'.
Bonito Brown, councillor for the Trench Town area, says that he is well aware of the infiltration of the JLP across the division, but scoffs at it and dubs it as only attempts to draw attention from their Member of Parliament. "The area that these activities (JLP support) are occurring in, such as Jones Town.
