Maggotty High student in vulgar dance video won’t be expelled Thursday, October 31, 2013 | 8:32 PM

ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica -- The Maggotty High School female student involved in a lewd dance video circulating on the Internet will not be expelled.
Instead, she will be counselled and several steps will be taken to ensure that a similar incident does not recur, principal of the St Elizabeth school, Rawle Bent, told Observer Online late Thursday.

Bent said that the decision was taken after extensive discussions by the school's board on the implications of the online post and the student involved.
A video showing teenagers wearing Maggotty school uniform gyrating in sexually explicit dancing at an event drew widespread condemnation when it hit social media last weekend. It was later revealed that the video was filmed in 2011 and all the students involved had graduated then, except one.
"The parent of the student still attending school was called in and was encouraged to work with her daughter," said Bent. "The school will be making every effort to provide counselling for her.
"The school also will be using this incident as a teaching tool to guide the students as to what constitutes appropriate behaviour, especially when wearing school uniform," Bent said.
"Furthermore, the school is about to launch a mentorship programme and it is hoped that it will positively impact all students."
Bent added that there are other strategies that were discussed which will be implemented in a timely manner.

Would it have been fair to expelled student from school and not expel Roger Clarke from Parliament? No, Roger that!

Two different issues...none deserve expelling from anything. The elder statesman should have been more discreet in his antics, the juvenile, moreso, youthful vigour. I think the decision NOT to expel is fair and just rather than to ascribe to the abject hypocrites calling for blood.
As for the politician - all is quickly forgotten - as is usually the case in politics.
My take is that Jamaicans at times tend to go way over board with false puritanical views.

Expulsion would have been over the top. As some have said previously, youths are constantly influenced by a plethora of sources.

Good move Maggotty. At least these girls don't feel as if they are less than human. They made a mistake and can still contribute to society. Expelling them to go sit at home and get pregnant was not they way.

                      Good question!
...but they also should still be in school being given appropriate guidance.
