INDECOM Changes Investigative Focus As Police Shootings Increase

    Published: Friday November 1, 2013 | 7:26 am1 Comment

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is reporting that eight out of every ten police shootings in October ended in fatalities.

INDECOM’s assistant commissioner, Hamish Campbell, says this extraordinarily high figure has forced the police oversight body to redirect the efforts of the entity’s investigative staff to facilitate the increased number of force-related incidents.

The investigative body says over the last four months, 80 civilians were killed by agents of the State, with 36 being recorded in October alone.

In total, the preceding three months, July to September, recorded 44 police killings.

Assistant commissioner Campbell, however, has sought to assure the public that INDECOM is doing all it can to investigate the cases.

Campbell refused to point to definitive causes for the killings, however, he acknowledged that increased confrontations between members of the security forces and criminals could have contributed to the increasing figures.

He asserted that INDECOM's 37 investigators will ensure that the investigations are carried out at the highest standard.

Maybe it is to overwhelm the INDECOM.
I believe the argument against having INDECOM was a mechanism of such type was already in place, whey Internal Affairs fah?
The typical press release"..a police team came under heavy gunfire...,shots were returned....,in the end A(ONE) gun was recovered fully loaded(no mention of spentshells)and TWO males were found suffering from gunshot wounds.....pronounced DEAD at the hospital(the wound in question is instantly fatal).
      Will this ever be addressed?
