Jamaican govt refuses to take back nationals in UK prisons

The Ministry of Justice has been trying to persuade successive Jamaican governments to allow up to 737 prisoners to be returned to the island to serve sentences for crimes committed in the UK.

why the UK don't just deport them?

“Don’t give the Jamaican government the option just load them onto a plane and fly it over there and drop them off. Then send the bill to the Jamaican PM for the flight and the cost of keeping their citizens in a 5 star hotel (called prison) for the amount of time they have served. well they can't charge us for the flight back...but yeah i agree...

i think the key was that they wanted to send them to jamaica to serve their sentences in jamaica. it seems they do not want to have to pay the cost for keeping them incarcerated but rather for the jamaican government to absorb that cost.

once the sentence has been served they can deport them and the jamaican government has to hug that up.

That idea may not be so unrealistic as you believe. I heard that a couple people where sent hospital bills after police took them for drug searching at a hospital and the test came back negative.

they need to cut the sentence short and deport them then...the burden should not be on the Jamaican penal system...dem neva commit no crime in Jamaica...

So a murderer who has a 20 year or a lifetime sentence, who has done only one year, his sentence should be cut to time served and shipped back to Jamaica?

either that or they keep him in jail in the UK and shut dem trap...him never murder nobody in Jamaica...
