Well US should be on the highest state of Alert. Personally I want to see battle fatigues and M16s at Grand central, Time sq. and Penn St. Let them know no one is playing games with them.

What I find very discouraging is that almost 15 years after Western civilization declared war against Islamic terrorism , specifically Al Queda, all there is to show for it is Al Queda 2.0 aka ISIS.

We haven't come up with a workable strategy to defeat this enemy.

This is not really surprising. The largely unknown fact is that the so called West is not committed to defeating Islamic extremism. On the contrary it tries to USE the terror movement to achieve geo-political goals in a world where the global order is shifting unfavorably away from the West.

The so called "war on terror" is a SHAM. For the West, buttressing its position in the world order trumps EVERYTHING. Extremist induced chaos is actually a tool being used to achieve much larger geo-political goals.

Some key indicators available to connect the geo-political dots re actions of the US/West:

          A. Arming and training Islamist extremists in the 1980s in Afghanistan in order to foil the Soviet-backed government and drive out the Soviet army...The extremists included a then unknown Osama Bin Laden.
Of course with the Russians defeated via MASSIVE US help to TERRORISTS....Osama, Al Qaeda & Terror Co then turned their attention to the West.. with consequences we all know about

          B. The US invasion of Iraq for OBVIOUSLY FALSE reasons. A stable Saddam govt was overthrown..and that country devolved into ABSOLUTE CHAOS. Out of that chaos ISIL and many other terror groups were created from disenfranchised Sunni elements who turned to terror tactics against the ascendant Shia government...then they turned their attention to the West.

          C. The West incited revolt and also actively bombed and/or conducted regime change ops in Algeria, Syria, Libya and other PREVIOUSLY STABLE Muslim majority countries. The result: ABSOLUTE CHAOS with totally broken countries and many more TERROR OPPORTUNITIES.... Not to mention a HUMONGOUS REFUGEE CRISIS in Babylon. That one we are yet to see its full effects. What we see now is JUST THE BEGINNING.

          D. Most Islamist extremism/terrorism is driven, supported & financed by the Wahhabi branch f the Sunni sect. Guess where is their KEY SPIRITUAL & ECONOMIC & POLITICAL HQ?

Ans: That critical US/West ALLY...SAUDI ARABIA. That country is the main supporter of global terror as they are in conflict with the Shia..led by Iran, and now Iraq...and what's left of Syria under Assad (who is Alawite..a clan associated with the Shia).

We can only speculate on the reasons behind this unholy alliance of silence & complicity in terror between US/West/Saudi Arabia...but the reasons would naturally relate to SELF INTEREST

What is most telling is the ABSOLUTE SILENCE in the Western Mainstream Press (i.e. their global propaganda machine) regarding this Saudi connection. The Western Mainstream press does not practice journalism in a pure sense..but MANAGED PROPAGANDA IN SUPPORT OF OVERT & HIDDEN AGENDAS.

Wheels exist within these wheels I outline...but dem deres di fax. Go figure

Good points ,thats why europe must lead with boots on the ground.

Well dropping bombs looks good on the news highlight reel but I suspect the net effect is to create more radicals than you are killing.

They may well go into Syria and take out Assad while they are at it but the problem is always then what next? Are they going to occupy indefinitely? That is what nobody has found a solution for yet.

Better than the alternative of bombing them from afar and be bombed (at home). They have to drag the middle east into the 1st world and that includes israel with its occupation and Saudi Arabia with its state sponsoring of radicalism.

Its a problem they built( the west ) they have to deal with.I dont believe america should lead.

                    Cant stress that enuff.

ISIS started out as Al Queda in Iraq, after the US invasion took out Saddam.

ISIS means Islamic State of Iraq and Syria , then they started referring to themselves as ISIL, which is Islamic State of Iraq and Levant which covers a much greater geographical area. They are motly Sunni Iraqis and Syrians.

More recently they refer to themselves as just Islamic State, presumably their ambitions have expanded once more to include the whole planet.

I think Karl is asking, how exactly does one defeat ISIS, which is more an ideology than it is an army or a country.

In my view, the worst mistake anyone could make at this time is to send in ground troops.

Recently, the word DAESH for ISIS seems to be in vogue.

Fitting - we can't nail them down by name, or by any other method!

It seems to me that there are only two ways to defeat something like ISIS.

Either 1) Kill everybody who is or is likely to be attracted to that ideology, or 2) find a way to win the hearts and minds of the people who are attracted to that ideology.

Both of those are extremely difficult to do.
