No doubt Bolt is more popular. It is Bolt time but as Westman say we should celebrate them both. We need to honor them.

X....I have to give it to you. You are on to something. At some point Bolt will be surpassed....as much as we love him. But I think Marley is, and will be, more significant.

Let's not compare them. Instead, let us celebrate them both as extremely bright threads of the wonderful Jamaican fabric.

Just reporting my experience; strictly anecdotal of course. I have no doubt that they know who Bob Marley is, but as Gamma indicates Bolt is the man of the hour! week? month? year?....maybe even the next few decades!

It is true that Bolt is far more recognizable, the difference of course is memorabilia of Bob is more popular in households than that of Bolt, and this of course remains true when Bolt is at the highest..
For me it is a draw.

I am talking popularity and recognition .

I would not argue about significance , not at this point anyway.

When I was in Cuba last month and I told people I was Jamaican, Bolt's name was the first they mentioned. I don't know why I was just a little surprised, but it wasn't just one, but several who brought up his name. They didn't mention Bob (nor Portia or Andrew LOL ).

More popular and significant are two different things, here Bobs message of singing for social issues will out live Bolt, even today the popularity question is debatable, while the significance will never be.

than Bob still hold? Or more recognizable?

I maintain that modern communication has made Bolt a more recognizable figure. Hundreds of millions of people in Asia were not exposed to Bob in any sustained way. After Beijing they pretty much all know Bolt.

It likely won't last, great artistes tend to have a more sustainable brand than great athletes. As it stands today though, I go with Bolt.
