KINGSTON, Jamaica — Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett says Jamaica welcomed over 50,000 tourists in the first week of April, ahead of the island's Carnival celebrations. This represents an increase of 12.4 per cent over the same period last year.

Interesting. Trinidad carnival which has been around for decades is pulling in less visitors than the infant Jamaica carnival.

Visitor Arrivals
Visitor Arrivals for the Carnival period 2017 were monitored from February 10th to February 28th, 2017. The Carnival period includes the seventeen days prior to the Carnival celebration as well as Carnival Monday and Tuesday, a total of 19 days.
The total visitor arrivals for the Carnival period to Trinidad and Tobago was 37,448 persons, with Trinidad recording 35,269 and Tobago 2,179 Arrivals.
The week immediately preceding Carnival Monday and Tuesday (February 20th to 26th) registered 19,027 visitor arrivals or approximately 51% of the total arrivals for the period. The largest number of visitors during this week was recorded on Carnival Thursday (February 23rd): 3, 652 visitors.

Because T & T is not the Mecca,so we have Champs from March 20 to 24th, carnival from March 31st to April 8th, the CPL from August to Sept, can we get the IAAF Grand Prix in June or July?

T & F is a middle class and upper middle class sport in the USA done as leisurely exercise e.g jogging is huge.We get that clientele in Kingston and I see gentrification like Harlem,Kgn will be overwhelmed,real estate prices will sky rocket.

The IAAF is begging us to acquire a meet,if CPL can see an annual 25% increase ,carnival 12 % imagine track and field,Kgn has a highway as Seaga visions opens up JA!

Think Barlett,think !$$$$$$$$,this requires planning and implementation by skilled technicians.

"A partnership of sports, business, and the Government would be great, especially if the Government could set targets and discuss and review them annually in Parliament."

Wehby stated that if proposals were put in place and controlled properly, Jamaica could grow the economy by six per cent by the year 2030, and that would be enough to fund sports and grow the economy.
