  • Tourism Dead !, JA on life support

Melissa proves that tourism is not and will never be the engine to move us forward, neither is it agriculture. Stem is the way to go , a stem industry would have withstood a hurricane , put people back to work and spur on a recovery immediately.Right now we are looking at a year or 2 to get back our market , that has been diverted to other islands or lands. We are in a recession !.

Man a jump up bout Bond money , sic .

Explain to me at what scale can Jamaica become a stem-driven economy. What levels of production, in any industry, can Jamaica challenge other countries with the USA being our main trading partner? Jamaica's two biggest assets which cannot be replicated anywhere else in the world is it's cultural appeal, which draws people to the island, and it's geographical location with its natural harbour, which makes it a central shipping lane.

My family, 25 strong, did not cancel our planned trip to Jamaica this Thanksgiving. We will be heading down there to spend our money with the locals buying trinkets while being chauffeured around.

you a real sample. So t"tiefing" Andrew win back?
What industry is Jamaica is not hurt?
Tourism is the first industry to recover. Ship already coming to Ochi, Most hotels will be open by Dec 15th for winter season. Show you know not what you are talking. Farming will take at least 6 mohths, production and manufactoring will depend on tourism to get back to normal. Some call centers are wiped out. Any industry you can think of is affected. How could Stem industry withstand Hurricane? just try explain.

One model suggesting it could help double the country's GDP by 2030 if fully leveraged. The contribution would come through various avenues, including driving innovation, creating high-skill jobs, improving productivity, and enabling the development of new industries.
        Key Areas of Contribution
        • Economic Diversification and Growth: Jamaica aims to shift its economy from low-growth and low-wage to high-skill and high-productivity by developing new, high-value industries like biotechnology, advanced manufacturing, renewable energy, and information technology.
        • Job Creation and Workforce Development: The global demand for STEM professionals is growing much faster than for non-STEM careers. By training a skilled STEM workforce, Jamaica can fill these high-demand jobs, both locally and globally (through talent export and remittances), and potentially attract multinational STEM investments.
        • Innovation and Problem Solving: STEM education and research foster critical thinking and problem-solving capacities that can address pressing national challenges like climate change, healthcare, food security through sustainable agriculture, and security.
        • Increased Productivity: The application of technology, a core component of STEM, has already shown a positive impact on productivity in the financial services sector. Broader adoption across other industries is expected to yield similar results.
        • Entrepreneurship and MSMEs: Government initiatives, such as the BOOST program and the MSME equity fund, aim to support graduates and entrepreneurs in developing new products and starting their own tech-based businesses, such as local manufacturing of affordable medical devices using 3D printing.

While STEM is not a standalone solution for all of Jamaica's socio-economic issues, robust participation in the STEM-driven global economy is considered indespensible to achieve significant, sustained economic growth and transforming the nation's economic landscape.
