Garvey, Cornwall, Rusea’s, Glenmuir reach semis

FALMOUTH, Trelawny — Ben Francis KO champs Garvey Maceo stayed on course for the double after qualifying for the semi-finals of the rural area daCosta Cup following a 0-0 tie against Manchester at JAMALCO yesterday.

Garvey finished second in Group One on four points behind Cornwall College, who ended Fair Prospect’s dream run with a 2-0 win at Elliston Wakeland in Falmouth to finish with seven.

This is Garvey Maceo’s second time in the last four. They will face Group Two winners Rusea’s in one semi-final on Saturday, while Cornwall and defending champions Glenmuir will meet for a place in the Dec 8 final at Jarrett Park.

Garvey Maceo have gone two matches without scoring a goal after their 6-0 thrashing of Fair Prospect in the first set of games in the round.
Cornwall reached the semi-finals for the first time in five seasons with a workman-like win over Fair Prospect. After missing more than 10 easy chances, Cornwall scored twice in the final 20 minutes through Horaine Lewis and Radcliff Hall.

Edward Campbell missed no fewer than three chances in the first half as Cornwall established their dominance.

After missing from the right side in the sixth, the National Under-20 player had time in the ninth and with goalkeeper Anthony Forsythe at his mercy, hit the ball off the inside of the left upright.

Lewis gave Cornwall the lead with a brilliant goal in the second half, firing past a flat-footed Forsythe from 25 yards. Hall, who has not scored since the Inter-Zone round, made it safe in the 78th minute when he scored from close range.

    Yesterday’s results: Cornwall 2, Fair Prospect 0; Manchester 0, Garvey Maceo 0; Rusea’s 3, Clarendon College 1; Munro 2, Glenmuir 2.

Solidarity is not a matter of well wishing, but is sharing the very same fate whether in victory or in death.
