(Photo: AP)</SPAN></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><P class=StoryText align=justify>BERLIN, Germany (CMC) - Jamaican Asafa Powell logged a predictable 100-metre win and completed the IAAF Golden League six-race sweep with a splendid win at the ISTAF Berlin track and field meeting yesterday.<P class=StoryText align=justify>Powell, the world record holder for the distance, ran a meet record-equalling 9.86 seconds to win, grabbing a share of the US$1-million jackpot.<P class=StoryText align=justify>Sherone Simpson ensured a Jamaican sweep of the 100 metres by winning the women's event in 10.92 seconds.
Tirunesh Dibaba failed to win the 5,000 metres, defeated by her own countrywoman Meseret Defar and leaving the US$1-million jackpot to the other three contenders to share - Powell, Jeremy Wariner, who clocked 44.26 to win the men's 400 metres, and Sanya Richards dominating the women's 400 with 49.81.<P class=StoryText align=justify>The trio earned US$249,999 each by winning their events.
The three winners swept their events at all six stops on the Golden League series, assuring them of a three-way split of US$500,000.<P class=StoryText align=justify>They also took US$83,333 each from another US$500,000 purse shared by six athletes. (Photo: AP)</SPAN></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><P class=StoryText align=justify>The 23-year-old Powell, running in lane five, got a good start and took control early, striding to an almost unchallenged win although American Tyson Gay ran a solid race for second in 9.96 seconds.<P class=StoryText align=justify>American Leonard Scott (10.07) was third and the Jamaican 2005 World Championship silver medallist Michael Frater had a disappointing eighth place finish in 10.32 seconds.<P class=StoryText align=justify>"The crowd helped me a lot, but it was not enough for another world record," Powell said.
Simpson was even more dominant in her race, speeding to a classy victory in 10.92 seconds.<P class=StoryText align=justify>There was absolutely no threat as she stormed down the track, American Me'Lisa Barber finishing a distant second in 11.21 seconds and the Bahamian Debbie Ferguson third in 11.24 seconds. Cydonie Mothersill, of the Cayman Islands, finished eighth in 11.70.<P class=StoryText align=justify>The consistent Brigitte Foster-Hylton and her Jamaican colleague Novlene Williams copped other top-three finishes for the Caribbean.<P class=StoryText align=justify>Williams clocked 51.03 seconds in the 400 metres chasing Richards and Dee Dee Trotter (50.87)
