The surgery came about after the Reggae Boy limped out of Sheffield United's friendly at Notts County on Tuesday night with a damaged cartilage in the knee.
The big defender, who joined the Premiership newcomers for a record fee of £2.5 million from Preston North End earlier this summer, spoke with Sporting World minutes after the operation.
"Actually, I just did the surgery... so now I just have to do what the physiotherapist says to correct what I have to correct. They (doctors) said I'll be out for about four to six weeks," said Davis.
He added: "I'll miss the first five games of the season, but that's about it. I know that it's a setback, but I'm OK, I'm strong, so I'll live, I'm OK," the chirpy sounding Reggae Boy reassured.
According to Davis, the operation was done by one of the top knee surgeons in England, Dr Derrick Dickerson, and it is now up to him to get through rehabilitation.
"For now, it's just icing it really... ice and stretch for the first week and after that the physiotherapist will take it from there," he said.
The 27-yeard-old, who was Preston North End's player of the 2005-2006 season, was somewhat taken aback by the fact that this new chapter in his football career is being delayed.
"It's a bit of disappointment, but I take it in my stride... it's something I've got to live with... It's not like I'm not there (English Premiership) because I am. I'm basically a starting player with Sheffield... it's just a minor set-back - it could have been six months, so I have to look on the brighter side as it's only six weeks - although I was looking forward to start off the season against Liverpool," Davis told Sporting World.
