JAMAICA CRUISE INTO FINAL ROUND OF U-17 CARIBBEAN QUALIFYING
 

Donovan Miller scored a goal in the 38th minute as Jamaica posted a 1:0 victory on the road Sunday against Antigua & Barbuda in the second leg of their Caribbean Zone Under-17 qualifying series.

 Coupled with the young Reggae Boyz  6:1 win in the first leg in Kingston two weeks prior, the victory gave Jamaica the Group B title 7:1 on aggregate and assured them of a berth in the final round of Caribbean Zone qualifying.

 In the final round of qualifying, Jamaica will play a home and away series against the winner of Group C, comprising Haiti, Cayman Islands, Barbados and hosts Dominican Republic from 23-27 October.

 Arnett Gardens lead Wray and Nephew Premier League

 

Champions Arnett Gardens have jumped to the top of the points standing after seven rounds of the Wray and Nephew Premier League. Arnett Gardens are on 16 points along with Hazard United, but they have played one game less.

Below are the points standing:

Arnett Gardens 16, Hazard United 16, Harbour View 13, Village United 12, Rivoli United 10, Tivoli Gardens 8, Reno 8, Constant Spring 7, Waterhouse 5, Seba 5, Bull Bay 4 and Wadadah 4.

JFF U-21 LEAGUE

Arnett Gardens are also on top of the JFF Under-21 League with 10 points from four games, followed by Waterhouse on 8, Hazard United 8, Reno 8, Seba United 7, Harbour View 5, Rivoli United 5, Tivoli Gardens 4, Village United 3, Bull Bay 2, Constant Spring 2 and Wadadah 1.

 

JAMAICA DRAW WITH JAPAN IN FRIENDLY 

Ricardo Fuller’s late second half tally gave Jamaica a 1:1 draw with Japan in an International Friendly on 16 October at the sold-out National Stadium in Tokyo.

 Jamaica will next travel to Guatemala City to tackle Guatemala in an International Friendly on October 30. They will then return to complete final preparation for the CONCACAF Gold Cup playoffs which takes place in Grenada in mid-November.

 

TD Brown returns to Jamaica

Technical Director designate, Carl Brown, after leading Jamaica to a draw against Japan in Tokyo on October 16, returned to the island over the weekend to assume his position officially.

Brown, who took over the reins of the national team after the departure of Brazilian Clovis de Oliveira last October, had been understudying the English professional at Premiership Club, Bolton Wanderers, in England since the start of this year.

His immediate tasks include the preparation of Jamaica’s teams for the CONCACAF Gold Cup playoffs and the CAC Championships in El Salvador in November.

 

Marshall assist  hands first MLS title to Los Angeles Galaxy.

Jamaican Tyrone Marshall made the final pass to Carlos Ruiz who scored a golden goal in the second extra-time period as Los Angeles Galaxy captured their first MLS Cup championship with a dramatic 1:0 victory over New England Revolution in front of 61,316 spectators at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts on Sunday 20 October.

 Two other Jamaicans, Wolde Harris and Winston Griffiths, played for New England in Sunday’s final.  

JAMAICA GO FOR 2002 FC WOMEN’S GOLD CUP

When the second edition of the FC Women’s Gold Cup begins this Sunday in Pasadena, California, eight teams, including Jamaica, will be vying for the honor of calling themselves the best women’s team in North and Central America and the Caribbean.

However, not only will the pride that comes with a Confederation championship be on the line, but also three berths on the world stage at FIFA Women’s World Cup 2003 China PR.

Conceived a few short years ago to stand alongside the FC Gold Cup as the preeminent national teams competition in the region, the Women’s Gold Cup will crown its second champion this year, after the USA defeated guest side Brazil 1:0 in a hard-fought final to win the inaugural event in 2000.

Group A, playing in the southern California venues of Pasadena and Fullerton, as well as Seattle, Washington, features defending champions and hosts the USA, Mexico, Panama from the Central Zone and Jamaica from the Caribbean Zone. In addition to Sunday in Pasadena, matches will be played on 29 October (Fullerton) and 2 November (Seattle).

 Group B, which will be based in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, will be comprised of Canada, Costa Rica, Trinidad & Tobago and Haiti. Match days are set for 30 October and 1 and 3 November. The semifinals will played at Safeco Field in Seattle on 6 November, with the final to be played in the Rose Bowl – site of the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup final – on 9 November.

HARBOUR VIEW GRAB EARLY SERIES LEAD WITH ROAD VICTORY IN FIRST LEG

 Harbour View FC scored two first-half goals and cruised to a 3:0 away victory against George Town SC in the first match of their Caribbean Zone preliminary round series in the 2003 Champions Cup at the Truman Bodden Sporting Complex on Thursday 17 October. The victory gives the Jamaican side a comfortable advantage heading to the return leg on 27 October in Kingston.
