Floyd Mayweather gave his millions of Twitter followers an insight into his extravagant 37th birthday celebrations over the weekend with a ‘selfie’ on board a private jet with friends and his security team.
Mayweather, who has reportedly split from girlfriend Shantel Jackson, was surrounded by female friends as he watched the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Boston Celtics on Sunday evening.
The eight-time undefeated world title holder is due to fight on May 3 but the prospects of a much-anticipated clash with Britain’s Amir Khan in Las Vegas appear to be fading after Mayweather set up a poll on his Twitter account asking fans to vote on whether he should fight Khan or Argentine Marcos Maidana.

Maidana holds a substantial lead in the poll and Khan appeared to concede on Friday night that he will not be the one taking on Mayweather in May.
Using Twitter, Khan said: ‘No response from Mayweather or his team. Fight’s not happening. I should have taken the title fight last December against [Devon] Alexander.’
Mayweather’s last fight earned him $41.5million and the Michigan-born boxer makes no secret of his love of hard cash, calling his entourage ‘The Money Team’ and regularly posting pictures on Twitter of huge piles of $100 notes, which he famously always carries around with him in a Nike bag.
Last month, the American shot down reports that the Seattle Seahawks’ Super Bowl victory had cost him $10.4m, after pictures had emerged on Twitter of him staking the staggering sum of money on the Denver Broncos to win.

Tragic, he will learn his lesson like Allen Iverson & others. Lets check in with him in 10 years after his playing days are over.

His current net worth says... SMART !

<It wasn't long, though, before Schaefer earned a grudging respect for Mayweather's business sense. And a few months after Mayweather and De La Hoya set a pay-per-view record by selling 2.45 million units, Schaefer found himself seated next to Mayweather on a flight to London.

They had a conversation about promoting and marketing. Suddenly, Schaefer's grudging respect turned to admiration. Mayweather, he discovered, was far brighter, more analytic and filled with clever ideas, than he'd ever imagined.

From his earliest days as a professional, Mayweather was adamant he should be marketed primarily to an urban market, and he proved correct. He has turned into the biggest pay-per-view draw in boxing, drawing numbers rivaled only in the sport's history by ex-heavyweight champion Mike Tyson. In his last four fights, he's sold over 6 million pay-per-view units that have generated nearly $400 million.

On Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, he'll meet Victor Ortiz for the World Boxing Council welterweight title in a bout that almost certainly will top 1 million sales and could exceed 1.5 million.

As great as he is as a fighter, however – rival promoter Lou DiBella believes Mayweather may deserve to be ranked in the top 10 all-time – he may even be better as a promoter. He knew he had to expand his audience, so after beating De La Hoya, he appeared on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars." After a win over Ricky Hatton, Mayweather appeared on several WWE telecasts and ultimately was featured in Wrestlemania 24.>

Ellerbe said he has no fear that Mayweather will blow the fortune after his fighting career, the way that former heavyweight champions Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield, among many others, did.
"Never," Ellerbe said. "Floyd has a tremendous advantage, because he's seen the pitfalls and the things that have happened to other fighters, going back a long, long time before him. He's educated himself and surrounded himself with top-flight financial advisors. Floyd has a number of billionaire friends who have helped him and given him sound advice.
"In this world, it's all about who you know. There are things that are not available to this segment of people that are available to this other segment of people. And Floyd's taken advantage of all of that."

Well this is good. Wish him a long prosperity.

I hope he is right. One thing I have learned though is that any athlete can outspend their earnings with time if they are not mindful.

Iverson earned over 200 million in his career and went through it before he was 50. Antoine Walker went through 100 million before he was even finished playing.

If what this guy says is true then maybe Mayweather is different and more like Lebron and Tiger. We will see.
