Fifa corruption: South Africa cash 'worrisome'

A key figure in South Africa's football World Cup bid has broken ranks with the government to suggest there might be some truth to a claim that a $10m bribe was paid to secure the 2010 tournament.

Tokyo Sexwale told the BBC the US allegations were "worrisome".

The government says it paid $10m to accounts controlled by then Fifa vice-president Jack Warner to support football development in the Caribbean.

Blatter 'discussed $10m World Cup payment with South African President' – e-mail

Sepp Blatter, the head of football’s world governing body, personally discussed a $10 million "bribe" now at the centre of corruption allegations over the 2010 World Cup bidding with Thabo Mbeki, the then South African President, an email seen by the Telegraph suggests.

The disclosure prompted Fifa to admit Mr Blatter, who announced his resignation amid a spiralling scandal last week, knew about the payment.

But it claimed that although he and other senior officials had “information” about it this did not constitute any “involvement”.

Fifa crisis: 'Ex-President Mbeki approved South Africa's $10m'

South Africa's sports minister says the decision to donate $10m (£6.5m) to Fifa to develop Caribbean football was approved by then President Thabo Mbeki. The payment, which South Africa denies was a bribe to secure the 2010 World Cup, is central to the Fifa scandal.

The claim comes after a letter emerged that appears to show officials seeking an indirect route for the transfer. South Africa's government said the letter did not contradict its statement that this was a legitimate payment.

It is the Swiss government that is investigating the bidding process:

But all that seems to be contradicted by its pursuit of FIFA banking system ,its investigating the bidding process and lord knows what else , make no mistake about it ,the tax issue is a banking issue ,this has huge geo political national and international implications ,evidenced by indictments and resignations around the world, now you can sit down behind your p.c and ignore the obvious ,why would america ignore the chance to control a multinational corporation like FIFA which has such political influence ,the monetary is just the icing on the cake.Bring FIFA into the american banking system i.e laws and you can just imagine americas international reach around the world expanding.

Its no coincidence of push back by the so called third world, even some in the west are apprehensive, let see how this plays out.It sure as hell has nothing to do about americas love of football.

The U.S authorities originally went after Blazer because of tax reasons: he had been living a multi-millionaire lifestyle without ever filing a tax return -- you think the I.R.S. was going to let that slide?

It was only then, when he chose to cooperate and start ratting out others, that it expanded to other FIFA officials and affairs.

The U.S. Govt. simply does not give a sh!t about soccer in the way you seem to think it does.
